Immediately upon starting the second leg of the run, Bandit picks up runaway bride Carrie, whom he eventually nicknames "Frog" because she is "kinda cute like a frog", she is "always hoppin' around", and because he "wants to jump" her. They reach Texarkana an hour ahead of schedule, load their truck with the beer and head back toward Atlanta. The trip to Texas is mostly uneventful except for at least one pursuing Arkansas State Trooper whom Bandit evades with ease.

The Burdettes find legendary trucker Bo "Bandit" Darville competing in a truck rodeo at Lakewood Fairgrounds in Atlanta they offer him $80,000 to haul 400 cases of Coors beer from Texarkana, Texas back to Atlanta in 28 hours Big Enos has sponsored a driver running in the Southern Classic stockcar race and "when he wins I want to celebrate in style." Bandit accepts the bet and recruits his partner Cledus "Snowman" Snow to drive the truck, while Bandit drives the "blocker", a black Pontiac Trans Am bought on an advance from the Burdettes, to divert attention away from the truck and its illegal cargo.

Truck drivers who had taken the bet previously had been caught and arrested by "Smokey" (CB slang for highway patrol officers, referring to the Smokey Bear-type hats worn in some states). At the time, Coors was regarded as one of the finest beers in the United States, but it could not be legally sold east of the Mississippi River. Momentarily, the highest current bid has only gone up to $32k.Wealthy Texan Big Enos Burdette and his son Little Enos seek a truck driver willing to bootleg Coors beer to Georgia for their refreshment. And there’s plenty of time to go haywire with the auction since there are four more days on the clock. We could go on and on about what makes this Firebird Trans Am Special Edition so great (like the shaker hood, among others), but the truth is that everyone will try to add this to the fleet thanks to the Smokey connection. Moving inside there’s air conditioning, powered windows, and more gold accents – which may or may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but they’re so “1980s” that we just can’t help but love them. Other goodies worth mentioning are the gold body graphics, 15″ gold-accented snowflake wheels, removable roof panels, or a Flowmaster exhaust system. The good news is that we are dealing with the latter variety, thanks to the W72 performance package.
The highlights include the 400ci (6.6-liter) V8 engine that was good for either 180 or 200 horsepower back in the day.

There’s a clean New York title attached to the sale, which still has a few more days to go crazy among fans of the series (both the movies and the Firebird). A major second-generation Firebird Trans Am revamp occurred that same year, but it might have gone unnoticed across popular culture if the year’s special edition didn’t feature alongside Burt Reynolds.
